Project
CLAWR ATV Trail Construction
Timeline
2010-2015
Scope of Work
Cenovus Energy retained Trace Associates to oversee the construction of alternative access routes within the Cold Lake Air Weapons Range, specifically in the Canoe Lake, Caribou South, and 70-04 W4M areas. The project aimed to develop trails suitable for year-round ATV access to facilities in these locations. Phase one of the project was completed in 2010, followed by the commencement of phase two in 2011. This work plan outlines the background, project scope, schedule, and cost estimates required to achieve the project objectives.
Conclusions
Construction methods were revised from corduroying to planking, resulting in a cost savings of $50/m. Ongoing monitoring is recommended to assess the durability and suitability of these methods. Frozen ground conditions prevented any surface disturbance or soil admixing throughout the project, and no spills or other environmental concerns were encountered. Greater efficiency and team cohesion could be achieved if all project personnel were accommodated in the same camp rather than in separate ones.
