Project
Oil Sands Vegetation Cooperative Seed Collection Initiative
Timeline
2014-2020
Scope of Work
The Oil Sands Vegetation Cooperative (OSVC) provided support to the seed collection initiatives that were deployed in the northern Athabasca Oil Sands, Southern Athabasca Oil Sands and Cold Lake regions. This project contains a spreadsheet and a knowledge gap analysis that identifies species and aspects requiring further research to support their use in oil sands reclamation. This project also highlights the goals, challenges, and future direction of the OSVC.
Conclusions
A summary of existing knowledge & knowledge gaps and species assessment for the propagation of terrestrial boreal species. It contains a matrix of 130 vascular plant species and all aspects of plant deployment, from seed acquisition, seed extraction, seed storage, germination or managing dormancy, seedling production, vegetative propagation, shallow salvage harvest, storing salvaged material, placement of salvaged material, directly sowing seed, planting cuttings or whips, planting nursery produced seedlings and overall success. The project also contains member guides that describe the purpose and plans for the OSVC.
