Vegetation
Vegetation
The boreal forest, dominated by conifer species and scattered with lakes, rivers and wetlands, is the predominant biome in the Oil Sands Region of northeastern Alberta
Beyond providing biodiverse wildlife habitat, this ecosystem plays a critical role in carbon storage, air and water purification, and climate regulation. Since revegetation is critical to restore boreal forests after disturbance, the Land EPA portfolio includes a large body of research focused on developing efficient and effective revegetation practices to improve outcomes and ensure regulatory compliance.
