CT Fen Construction-Revegetation: Water Chemistry, Peat Compaction, Peatland Plant Establishment, Vegetation Scale up and Monitoring

Timeline

2008-2012

Scope of Work

This was a five part project on Syncrude’s Mildred Lake lease that aimed to better understand the establishment and growth responses of key plant species to water and soil qualities in a U-shaped cell Consolidated Tailings deposit. It focused on rich fen species that would be key candidates for early reclamation. The 5 projects focused on: 1) salinity trials, 2) peat characteristics 3) seed collecting and plant cultivation protocols, 4) revegetation scape-up, and 5) monitoring of plant growth and wetland function.
