Scope of Work

The OSLI Land Stewardship Working Group (LSWG) engaged an External Advisory Panel of experts to critique current projects and provide ideas for new projects. The results of this project include a "Meeting Minutes and Decision Report" document from External Advisory Panel Meeting #2 on September 20, 2010 and a "Key Outcomes" document from External Advisory Panel Meeting #3 on April 26, 2011.

Conclusions

Key Points of 2010 Meeting: Develop BHAG around: (1) footprint management and (2) biodiversity objectives. Focus on reclaiming appropriate area, deal with bottlenecks. Move forward with large efforts, learn as you go. Success depends on regional focus. Take ownership of restored areas for long term. Leverage resources in vendor/supplier, academic and industry communities. Three Phases: (1) Algar restored ASAP; (2) go after other areas identified in LARP; (3) look at areas with marginal resources, second choice protected conservation areas. 2011 Meeting Key Points: (1) collaborative planning – engage with other parties, leverage existing work, data and processes; (2) be clear about expected outcomes – small/large scale; (3) regulatory and policy barriers – identify and address, engage in policy discussions; (4) feasibility assessment for new ideas – fen transplant, fencing, mammal detection; understand outcomes and cost/benefits; (5) OSBI long term planning/land management; (6) knowledge transfer/collaboration between OSLI and AlPac.
